Guangxi Wanfeng Kalay Mineral Sand Co., Ltd. Was registered in 1972 and commenced mining in South China in 1978. WFKALAY's business focuses on two areas - titanium minerals for titanium metal and titanium dioxide pigment production; and zircon for ceramics.
For the 12 months period to 31 December 2003, sales of rutile, zircon and ilmenite from Sourh China generated operating revenue for WFKALAY of around US$8.23 million. In China WFKALAY employs over 220 people, of whom 102 are island residents. WFKALAY's major operating costs comprise labour, electricity, maintenance and rehabilitation of mined areas. WFKALAY also indirectly employs many local businesses and contractors, which provide services to the mine. The Mining area has also grown since WFKALAY began operations. Schools, medical services, roads, electricity and water supplies and communication links have been established with the assistance of the company's 23 years of mining on the Mining A rea.
WFKALAY has two mines for the extraction of mineral sands operating in South China and a Dry Mill plant for processing the mineral near Zhanjiang Port, China.
WFKALAY produces an average of 52,000 tons of Rutile,61,000 tons of Zircon and up to 185,000 tons of Ilmenite Sand annually.
WFKALAY exports mineral to around 20 countries. WFKALAY's major customers for rutile include pigment producers such as Du Pont(USA)and Tioxide(UK)Rutile is also sold for the manufacture of welding electrodes to companies such as Kobe Steel(Japan)and titanium metal production, TOHO(Japan)WFKALAY's major customers for zircon contribute to the production of ceramics, for example, Macina Minerals(Italy)WFKALAY accumulated experience translates to cost effective development of process flowsheets and plant design.
